As someone who’s broken three pairs of glasses in the past two years, durability was my priority. The acetate here is thick enough (around 5-6mm at the edge) but still flexible. I dropped them on concrete by accident—not a scratch. The frame’s color didn’t fade or chip around the temples either. Good for guys who don’t baby their accessories. Only con: the arms are a bit long, so if your head is on the smaller side, they’ll poke out past your ears.

Just a heads-up: the included screwdriver is tiny, so don’t lose it.

I was skeptical about square frames because I have a round face, but these actually slim down my cheeks visually. The key is the slight cat-eye tilt at the corners—it’s subtle but lifts the eye area. I’ve been on a tortoise frame hunt for months, and this one finally nails the color balance—it has warm brown undertones without looking orange. The square shape is actually forgiving on my oval face, and the arm width is 138mm, which sits perfectly without pinching. Short and sweet: these glasses fit well, look better than expected, and the price is right. I’m a ‘buy once, cry once’ type, so I appreciate that the hinges are reinforced and the temples don’t warp when you take them off one-handed. The only reason I’m not giving five stars is the color—it’s darker in person than the product photos. More ‘espresso tortoise’ than ‘honey tortoise.’ Still good, though.

I’ve been wearing the Terre Haute Square Tortoise for about two weeks now, and the weight distribution is surprisingly good. The acetate feels sturdy but not clunky, and the tortoise shell pattern has a nice depth to it—almost like a resin art piece. The bridge sits comfortably on my nose without leaving red marks, which is rare for square frames. Only thing is, if you have a narrow face like mine, you might need a slight adjustment at the temple for a snug fit.

I usually chase unique colorways, and this tortoise scratch is more ‘warm amber with dark flecks’ than the usual muddy brown. The square silhouette gives off a vintage librarian vibe, which I love, but the frame width might be a tad wide for petite faces—I measured mine and it’s 145mm total. Still, the titanium core wire inside the acetate makes it light enough for all-day wear, even if I’m reading for hours.
